So, you are suffering from a severe hand or wrist pain or injury but you have no clue what caused it. So, by that logic you literally have no way to avoid the pain or injury the other time around. I think we can all agree to the fact that you can only stop something or an issue from happening again and again only if you know the actual cause of it, when you will know the main cause of the problem, you can remove the problem from the root level. There can be a number of reasons of why you are suffering with or are experiencing hand or wrist pain.

Occasional Hand and wrist pain are usually because of any recent or previous injury but it can also be caused when you are overusing or misusing your hands and wrist which can cause strain and pain. However, persistent or reoccurring pain in the hand may be the sign of an underlying condition.

Overuse of Your Wrist and Hands

Iterative hand and wrist movements or overuse of the hands and the wrist can cause the tendons, muscles, and nerves to become sore, painful, or tense. Pain and tension from muscles in the arms and shoulders can also transfer lower down to the larger part of the hand. This type of strain typically results from carrying out very repetitive or high-intensity activities for long periods of time. Holding both the hands together in a very awkward and uneasy position for way too long can also lead to overuse or misuse injuries.

Some of the most common and well renowned causes of hand and wrist strain include, using heavy duty machinery and tools for workshops, doing a workout that is lifting very heavy weights which you cannot bear, playing any physical game like football, soccer, cricket, and especially sports like tennis, and able tennis can cause a lot of strain on your hands and wrists. Other than that, the most important and common activity or habit which can cause you a lot of hand and wrist pain is the thing which you are probably doing right now, which is typing or using a computer mouse for a very long time or in an uncomfortable or wrong position.

Over use strains often respond very well to cold or hot packs, rest, rest, and gentle stretching. Taking (OTC) that is “Over the Counter” medications like as ibuprofen and acetaminophen may also help reduce strain, swelling and a lot of pain.

A specialist or a doctor may also recommend physical therapy or making some changes to a person’s daily and usual habits to help prevent these types of pains, strains or injuries.

Ganglion Cyst

The fluid filled lumps that are present in or are developed near the joints or tendons in the wrist or the hand. These things can vary a lot in sizes, but they are often harmless and usually disappear without treatment. But they can also sometimes be very painful, swell and it may even affect a one’s ability to use their hand or wrist.

No one has yet understood why these ganglion are formed or what even causes ganglion cysts, but they tend to be more common in younger people and females.

Ganglion cysts do not usually require treatment. If a person has pain or difficulties moving a joint, a doctor may recommend draining the cyst or removing it surgically.

Trigger Fingers

Stenosing tenosynovitis also known as “trigger fingers” usually occur when the ring structure which are functioning as connective tissue also known as the tendon sheath at the base of a finger or the thumb becomes very swell.

This swelling can also affect the movement of the tendons, and thus this makes it very difficult and, in some cases, even painful to move any affected part of the thumb and also the finger. Any one with trigger finger may also notice a popping sensation when he or she tries to move the finger, or a feeling that the finger is catching on something.

The treatment operations for trigger fingers usually include making sure that all of your fingers get enough rest and even your thumbs, trying to immobilize you fingers and thumbs with the help of a splint, try taking anti-inflammatory medications, these medications usually include medicines such as ibuprofen, some times this even leads to taking steroid injections because they could help reduce the pain or strain from the injuries but when not even one of the previously mentioned methods work, you can even go for seeking release of the tendon sheath. Some specialists or experts may even recommend surgeries and operations when none of the treatments work or have no effect.

Scleroderma

A disorder in which a group of conditions that result in unusual growth of connective tissue under the skin or around internal organs is known as Scleroderma. There are a lot of types of Scleroderma, all of which can cause the skin of the fingers to thicken and tighten, which causes the fingers to be very difficult to moved. Systemic scleroderma also causes the blood vessels to become narrow, which can lead to tingling, pain and uneasiness.

Up till now there has not been a cure discovered for Scleroderma. But, blood pressure medications, steroids, and immunosuppressant’s can help relieve symptoms and prevent the condition from progressing.

Osteoporosis

The gradual loss of bone mass, which causes the bones to become weak and brittle is known as Osteoporosis. The weakness can increase the risk of a person to fracture his fingers, thumbs and mainly any other bone in the body. Osteoporosis is very common in old people and in old people and usually women. There are a lot of treatments for osteoporosis which mainly include exercising to improve muscle strength, bone health and even mobility, also making changes like lifestyles changes to reduce the risk of fractures and falls, also taking medication to increase the strength of bones, also taking supplements such a vitamin D and calcium which will help you improve your bone health.

Anyone who is experiencing any of these problems should definitely visit a specialist or a hand and wrist doctor, who is actually known as a physician. So, if you are one of these people, then you should probably contact your family physician.
